Mexico is a country located in North America, bordered by the United States to the north, and Belize and Guatemala to the
southeast. It is the northernmost and westernmost country in Latin America, and also the most populous Spanish-speaking country
in the world. Mexico is named after its capital city, whose name comes from the Aztec city Mexico-Tenochtitlan that preceded
it. The Mexi part of the name is from Mexitli, the war god, whose name was derived from metztli (the moon) and xictli
(navel) and thus meant "navel (probably implying 'child') of the moon". So, Mexico is the home of the people of Mexitli (the
Mexicas), co meaning "place" and ca meaning "people".
The music of Mexico is extraordinarily diverse and features a wide range of different musical styles. The best-known Mexican
genre by far is ranchera, interpreted by a band called mariachi. This style of traditional Mexican son which is considered
old-fashioned but respected traditional music and is usually listened to as much as modern music. Mexican ranchera) styles,
including norteño and banda, are not only popular within Mexico itself, but they are also frequently enjoyed by Mexican immigrants
in both rural and urban American communities.
Southern Mexican folk music is centered around the marimba, which remains popular in Chiapas and Oaxaca. In Yucatán the traditional
Jarana music and dance is popular.

Corrido
Evangelina
I dream in the morning
That she brings me water
And I dream in evening
That she brings me wine
Just a poor man's daughter
From Puerto Penasco
Evangelina in old Mexico
There's a great hot desert
South of Mexicali
And if you don't have water
Then you better not go
Tequila won't get you
Across the desert
To Evangelina in old Mexico
And the fire I feel for the
Woman I love
Is driving me insane
Knowing she's waiting
And I just can't get there
Lord only knows that I've
Racked my brain
To try and find a way
To see that woman in old Mexico
I met a kind man
Who guarded the border
He said you don't have papers
But I'll let you go
I can tell that you love her
By the look in your eyes now
She's the rose of the desert
In old Mexico
And the fire I feel for the
Woman I love
Is driving me insane
Knowing she's waiting
And I just can't get there
Lord only knows that I've
Racked my brain
To try and find a way
To see tht woman in old Mexico
And I dream in the morning
That she brings me water
And I dream in the evening
That she brings me wine
Just a poor man's daughter
From Puerto Penasco
Evangelina in old Mexico
There's a great hot desert
South of Mexicali
And if you don't have water
Then you better not go
Tequila won't get you
Across the desert
To Evangelina in old Mexico
She's the rose of the desert
In old Mexico

La Cucaracha

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,
Ya no puede caminar;
Porque no tiene, porque le falta
Marijuana que fumar.
Ya murio la cucaracha,
Ya la llevan a enterrar,
Entre cuatro zopilotes
Y un raton de sacristan.
Con las barbas de Carranza,
Voy a hacer una toquilla,
Pa' ponersela al sombrero
De su padre Pancho Villa.
Un panadero fue a misa,
No encontrando que rezar,
Le pidio a la Virgen pura,
Marijuana pa' fumar.
Una cosa me da risa:
Pancho Villa sin camisa;
Ya se van los carrancistas
Porque vienen los villistas.
Para sarapes, Saltillo;
Chihuahua para soldados;
Para mujeres, Jalisco;
Para amar, toditos lados.
The cockroach, the cockroach
Now he can't go travelling
Because he doesn't have, because he lacks
Marijuana to smoke.
The cockroach just died
And they carried him off to bury him
Among four buzzards
And the sexton's mouse.
