We meet at 2108 N. Fares Avenue
(upstairs room at Tri-State Bearing Company)

Looking below, you will notice there is no reason NOT to dance. Even though our focus is definitely International Folk Dancing, we also enjoy letting others know about other dance opportunities and expressions in the tri-state area; not just folk dancing! Perhaps we will see you at one of these special events, or even better, on our regular Thursday evening dances from 6:30-8:30. We accommodate all levels, so experience or a partner is unnecessary. Bring yourself, some comfortable shoes and clothes and give it a try!

If we can be of any service to you or you know of an event that is happening around the area of dance, please let us know. We rely on everyone to keep us up-to-date on things happening in the Evansville area and even further away. So please stay in touch. We always look forward to hearing from you.

  • February 26-28, 2010 "ITALIAN VILLAGE DANCES"

The Columbus Folk Dancers present Celest DiPietropaolo and Marie DiCocco, teaching Italian Village Dances. Come and discover the rich variety of Italian traditional dances, from tarantellas to saltarellos to Sardinian line dances to longways Balli Resiani (known to international folk dancers as Rezijankas). Couples, lines, sets — there will be something for everyone.

Celest DiPietropaolo has researched traditional village music and dance from the mountains of southern, central and northern Italy (including Sardinia) since 1983. Celest and his wife Marie DiCocco, who are currently in the process of moving from Virginia to Vermont, lived and worked in Italy from 1995-98. They teach dances that are still a part of the community and family festivals and rituals in mountain villages today. Celest (playing organetto) and Marie (guitar and tamburello) will also provide live Italian music at Saturday night's dance party, along with John Parrish from Detroit (fiddle and percussion) and members of Columbus' international folk dance band, Mixed Bag.

The weekend starts at 8:00 Friday evening and ends after Sunday lunch. The incredible part is that the cost for the entire weekend is only $60. For further information or directions visit their website.

  • May 14-16, 2010 "POTATO RUN DANCE WEEKEND"

For anyone looking for a beautiful location to dance, this is the place. Dancing occurs in the O'Bannon State Park in Croydon, IN, just west of Louisville, Kentucky. The Cosmic Otters from Chicago will be the musicians. They are known for lush driving dance music that is responsive to dancers and grounded in a solid choice of tunes—guaranteed to get every dancer joyful and jumping! Jonathon Whitall provides the driving fiddle plus foot percussion and wears spectacular pants. Edward Wallace adds juicy harmony fiddle. Meg Dedolph’s guitar anchors the band with solid rhythm, tasty chords, and occasional drumming. Eric Schedler’s creative, rhythmic piano and melodic accordion boost the already charged sounds.

They caller for the weekend, Charley Harvey, brings excitement and contagious enthusiasm along with clear, concise teaching and calling. Charley, from Charlotte, NC, has a goal of delivering the most fun to the most people possible. Smiles and laughter are definitely on the agenda!

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way.
